Down and Feather Bedding is Becoming More Popular in Hotels – Why?

Down is undeniably one of nature’s miracles. A seemingly impossible material – light and durable, warm when needed, but also temperature-balancing, lofty and soft, all at the same time. Not only that, but it’s completely eco-friendly, lasting for many years of hotel use and afterward, biodegrading back into nature where it came from. For hotels, delivering a better sleep experience than products made from non-biodegradable processed materials is the healthy alternative. There’s a reason this 100% natural raw material has been used for centuries as a luxurious filling for pillows, blankets and comforters.

Down is nature’s best insulator. Its natural structure traps air, which in turn traps the warmth of your body when needed, but also allows heat and moisture to escape when your body temperature differs from the space inside your bedding. This is known as thermoregulation.

Thermoregulation is one important feature that makes down the perfect filling material – without its ability to breathe and adjust to body temperatures, it would have been close to useless. Down is great at absorbing and releasing body moisture. Its ability to “breathe” regulates your body temperature and achieves optimum balance between you and your bedding, keeping you warm in the winter and comfortable in the summer, while also letting moisture out, so you sleep comfortably without sweating.

What about allergies? I’ve heard down and feather can cause allergic reactions. Not true! Down and feathers are inert materials. This means that by themselves, properly cleaned down and feather do not cause allergic reactions. What may cause allergies is poorly cleaned bedding. That’s why Blue Ridge has developed it’s own FreshLoft® Clean washing process, cleaning all dust, dirt and allergens out, and only uses AllerCore FabricLock™Allergy Free fabrics. It’s the hotel guests guarantee of a cleaner, more restful night’s sleep!

With all this comfort, will down and feather products hold up in hotel use environments? Despite its softness and lightness, down is extremely durable, stronger than titanium by weight. Down and feather bedding will last four to five times longer than its man-made counterparts. The ROI calculation measuring down products cost and lifespan versus polyesters, demonstrate down and feather cost less per night of use over its life. It can be compressed and decompressed hundreds of times without breaking down. So, a good quality down and feather bedding product, if properly cared for, can last years and years in hotels without problems.

Clean, sustainable solutions are essential to meet the needs of hotels. At Blue Ridge, we understand that, and are committed to eco-friendly sourcing, manufacturing and service, and providing that through our down and feather bedding products.
