Down and feathers are a waste product of the food industry and would otherwise end up in our world’s landfills. By cleaning and sanitizing down and feathers to be used in bedding, clothing and outdoor gear, these products help to reduce the amount of agricultural waste and contribute to the overall sustainability of our world.

Down is one of natures greatest insulating materials. Down is the light fluffy coating clustered beneath the feathers of waterfowl that helps to protect them and keep them warm through natural insulation. Down is a three dimensional cluster made up of fluffy filaments and contains no quill. Feathers are from the plumage of waterfowl and contain quills. They are two dimensional and provide some insulation and better support. Blue Ridge Hotel only uses small, highly curled, soft feathers.

The American Down and Feather Council is an association of manufacturers of natural fill bedding products, as well as dealers, buyers, sellers and processors of feathers and down. Their goal is to maintain and improve product quality and labeling accuracy. All Blue Ridge Hotel products are ADFC certified.

The Responsible Down Standard (RDS) independently certifies down and feathers against animal welfare requirements and tracks it from farm to final product. All Blue Ridge products are RDS certified.

We use recycled cartons and plastics, recycle to reduce waste, and purchase products made from recycled products.

At Blue Ridge, we use an advanced filtration system which prevents us from adding pollution to the environment. We also distribute any unused feather material to local farmers for new, secondary uses.
